Laser Body Sculpting, The Latest Trend in Fat Reduction

A new treatment could just change the way you think about Cosmetic Surgery. Hyped to replace the tummy tuck in cosmetic surgery patients, this laser treatment has been studied to reduce fat and tighten skin. But what does it involve? What study was done and how does it work to do this wonder?

The Treatment: Laser Lipolysis

Laser lipolysis is a minimally invasive procedure that melts fat and can be combined with the traditional liposuction to reduce fat in the body and tighten skin. Laser lipolysis also can work by producing new collagen in the body and cause that collagen to contract, which will tighten skin and make it appear leaner and more toned. Collagen is an important protein in the body that will give the texture to skin. Using laser lipolysis with liposuction can help ward off any skin sagging that can be a complaint after a patient has the liposuction treatment.

Laser Body Sculpting Latest Trend in Fat Reduction

The Study:

The study was conducted with 2,183 people that underwent the laser lipolysis and liposuction combination between February of 2009 and July of 2012. These people were 2/3 women and 1/3 men, ranging in age from 17 to 73 years old. They had many different procedures on several sections of the body. The measurements of the participants were taken prior to the surgery and at each follow up appointment they had. Both skin tightness and fat reduction were recorded in these individuals. The participants were seen daily for the week after the treatment and then at the 4 week, 12 week, and 24 week intervals. All had improvements.

How It Works:

The heat energy from the laser helps melt fat cells in the body while the traditional liposuction methods work to suck the fat away from the body cavity. This combination of breaking up fat better than before and removing it from the body helps get rid of more fat than just liposuction alone. It is a more targeted treatment, one that hones in on the fat without harming other tissues. This can result in less down time after the procedure and less recovery time healing from it. This can get the patient back out doing normal day to day things quicker, resulting in higher patient satisfaction.

This new study on the combination of traditional liposuction techniques with the laser lipolysis means that patients wanting more fat reduction and toner skin tissue afterwards will have less discouragement and more satisfaction. Skin can sag after the fat is removed, due to the decrease in volume. This sagging is one of the chief complaints after liposuction and can be sculpted into tight skin when the fiber-optic laser is guided for that use. The limitations that have always been with liposuction in the 20 years since its development, may have now been removed thanks to laser lipolysis.
