While women still dominate the statistics, men are beginning to make an impact as well. In 2012 a total of 14.6 million surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed on men and women. The overall increase in procedures went up 5%.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_156\" style=\"width: 293px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartlipo.com\/oldblog\/no-love-lost-for-cosmetic-surgery-procedures-according-to-asps\/istock_000016764589xsmall\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-156\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-156\" class=\"size-full wp-image-156\" alt=\"iStock_000016764589XSmall\" src=\"http:\/\/www.smartlipo.com\/oldblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/iStock_000016764589XSmall.jpg\" width=\"283\" height=\"424\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.smartlipo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/iStock_000016764589XSmall.jpg 283w, https:\/\/www.smartlipo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/iStock_000016764589XSmall-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 283px) 100vw, 283px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-156\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Increase in Cosmetic Surgery Procedures for Women and Men in 2012<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The American Society of Plastic Surgeons released their findings earlier this month in their annual update. While women dominate the stats, men are filling in the margins at an increasing rate too. According to ASPS, breast augmentation was still the number one procedure performed by member plastic surgeons. While women still want to enhance their breast size, men who suffer from gynecomastia elect to have smaller breasts, which is the reason male breast reduction surgeries rose more than 5%.<\/p>\n<p>The most popular surgical procedures are: breast augmentation, rhinoplasty, liposuction, eye rejuvenation and facelifts. And the most popular non-surgical procedures are: Botox, dermal fillers, laser hair removal, chemical peels and microdermabrasion. Non invasive procedures increased 6% from 2011 to 2012. These minimally invasive procedures have changed the industry and made cosmetic enhancements more mainstream and affordable.<\/p>\n<p>Regarding surgical procedures, more than 286,000 had breast augmentation, 246,000 \u00a0had nose surgery and reportedly 202,000 \u00a0had liposuction. However, there are many cosmetic surgeons and medical spas where surgical and non-surgical <a href=\"http:\/\/www.smartlipo.com\/smartlipobeforeafter.html\">fat removal procedures<\/a> are performed, but not included in this report.
