The torso lift is a special type of procedure performed on the upper or lower abdomen, that lifts and reshapes it. This is a common procedure performed just in time for beach season when you want to look your best in your swimsuit, whether it is a one-piece or bikini. Torso lifts are in the same category as body lifts, also called belt lipectomies. The procedure does everything from tightening the skin to removing unwanted fat.<\/p>\n

Why Do You Need a Torso Lift?<\/b><\/p>\n

The torso lift is most beneficial to people with extra, sagging skin on their abdomen. This might be from a previous pregnancy or after losing a large amount of weight. When you lose a lot of weight in a short period of time, your skin doesn\u2019t have the time to improve its elasticity. So often times, there is extra skin that might bother you aesthetically. If you get a torso lift, some skin is removed, while the rest is lifted and tightened, leaving behind only a small scar. If you have weight loss surgery, you may also want to get the torso lift.<\/p>\n

Are You a Candidate?<\/b><\/p>\n

The reason doctors have specifications for these surgeries is because of the recovery period. If you are not in good physical health, are not willing to take care of yourself, have unrealistic expectations or are a smoker, you are putting yourself and your immune system at risk. So to be a candidate, quit smoking and show your doctor you have realistic goals for the surgery and are more than willing to take care of yourself and follow their advice to improve the healing process.<\/p>\n

About the Procedure<\/b><\/p>\n

The torso lift uses two different techniques, which are similar to liposuction and to an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck. Combined, this allows the plastic surgeon to remove any unwanted fat, remove excess skin, and tighten the remaining skin. Under anesthesia, the procedure takes about five hours on average, or as long as seven hours for a more extensive surgery. You will be under general anesthesia, so you will be asleep during the procedure.<\/p>\n

After you have the torso lift performed, be sure you are aware of the aftercare instructions. You will need to wear a compression garment that reduces swelling and helps your body adjust after the surgery.
