Step By Step Guide to Smart Lipo

Posted on

SmartLipo is a revolutionary liposuction procedure that eradicates fat using a laser. As a laser-assisted liposuction technique, SmartLipo is less invasive than traditional liposuction procedures. Also, SmartLipo poses fewer side effects since the surgeon will not open any part of the patient’s body to remove the fat. So how does SmartLipo works? Here’s a step-by-step guide to walk you through this brilliant advancement in the field of weight treatment and health maintenance:

Step 1: Preparation

Upon consultation, the doctor will explain to you what SmartLipo is and why it is recommended to you. He may explain how the laser removes the fat from the area/s without being invasive at all. He will tell you how long this procedure will be performed, which is often 40 minutes to 1 hour. The doctor will talk to you regarding the benefits of SmartLipo as well as its risks. The many benefits of SmartLipo include being less invasive, less prone to risks and side effects, faster procedure time as well as faster recovery period. Usually, the risks of SmartLipo are fewer than traditional liposuction techniques, and are milder, temporary and involve only small discomfort. These include scars and burns, which happen to less than 10% of patients who underwent SmartLipo.

Then, you will be scheduled for the procedure. The surgeon may also perform the procedure right away if you choose to, as per his assessment.

About 30 minutes to one hour before you undergo SmartLipo, the doctor will administer pre-surgical medications, usually antibiotics. Then, the surgeon will mark the body areas from where the fats are to be removed. Then, the area/s is cleansed with an appropriate sterile antiseptic solution to eradicate chances of infection.

Step 2: Anesthesia

After the initial preparations are done, the doctor will administer the appropriate anesthesia needed. Basically, there are two types of anesthesia –  general and local. As an advanced liposuction technique, SmartLipo usually requires only local anesthesia. This means that you are awake and alert during the entire procedure. Also, your recovery time after the procedure is significantly decreased to only 1 to 2 days. However, if areas are large and many, the surgeon may recommend the use of general anesthesia. Under general anesthesia, you are asleep during the procedure. And, it will take more than 2 days to recover from the procedure. Another type of anesthesia is regional anesthesia, which is used when a large region of the body is involved (e.g. the whole abdominal region).  So far, cases of SmartLipo procedures frequently used local numbing only.

Step 3: Laser Treatment

Using a calibrated laser, the surgeon targets the area from which the deposits are to be removed. The laser liquefies the fat through the top layers of the skin of the patient. When the laser hits the area, it ruptures the fat cells. Once ruptured, the fatty liquid is removed from the area via a tiny skin incision that the surgeon has made. A tiny tube will suck the liquefied fat into an enclosed container.

It is typical that the laser will hit some small blood vessels while performing its task. But, there is no need of stitching. Instead, the laser seals of the blood vessels to reduce bleeding, swelling, and bruising. As you’ve noticed, the surgeon will not cut open any part of the targeted area. Instead, he will just utilize the laser to both remove the fat and seal off any damaged blood vessels within one hour. SmartLipo is truly one of the least invasive, safest and shortest liposuction techniques.

Step 4: Recovery

If the doctor used local numbing only, then you can walk out from the surgery room right after the SmartLipo procedure. You can also continue your mild activities while following the diet and rest time prescribed by the doctor. The doctor will place compression bandages to help the area heal faster. This will prevent the shifting of affected tissues, as well as the formation of blood clots in and around the area treated.

After this laser-assisted liposuction procedure, you can go back to your normal daily activities including your work or home chores within 1 to 2 days. Some patients can even return to work after the procedure on the same day because only a small area of their body was treated.
